Protect Your Car from Critters

Protect Your Car from Critters

With dropping temperatures, things that typically live outside start to come inside for warmth, including creepy crawlers and rodents. Disturbingly, they can also head into your car, and rodents in particular can cause a bunch of problems. Here are a few tips to keep your car critter-free. Try a few of them together for maximum effect.

  1. Hide/contain the food in your garage. Both insects and rodents love dog and cat food, and will do anything to get it. Get a protective container for your food that’s rodent-proof, and keep it out of sight.
  2. Change your car’s smell. Clean your car and get rid of any spilled food or drinks. Next, make your car inhospitable to rodents by spraying peppermint oil inside and around it. If peppermint isn’t your thing, there are many other non-commercial and commercial repellents to choose from.
  3. Set traps near your wheels. Mice and rats will climb up your wheels to get into your car, so set your traps there so they can’t miss them.
  4. Protect wires and engine openings. Make sure your wheel wells are sealed so rodents don’t climb that way into your engine. Next, place screens over the openings to your engine and around your wiring to protect them.

If all else fails, and you’ve got something in your car, head to your local Commercial Tire for assistance. We deal with animals in cars more than you’d think.
