Key Skills for Driving Independence

Key Skills for Driving Independence

A sense of freedom is the first feeling we get when we learn how to drive. But without some basic knowledge, a small problem can make that feeling of independence quickly disappear. Make sure you’re fully equipped for independence this 4th of July road trip weekend by being ready to do these five things.

  1. Fix a flat. Flat tires happen, particularly in summer heat and on unfamiliar roads. Fixing your own tire is the quickest way to get back on your way in a flash.
  2. Get where you’re going. If you’re a AAA member, you can get a free regional road map for your upcoming road trip. Which will be nice to have when you drive into the woods and out of cell phone reception. Not a AAA member? Print those Google or Apple Maps out ahead of time, get an atlas, or at the very least, learn to use offline Maps.
  3. Clear your cabin air. Driving on dusty roads can clog up your cabin air filter, cover your interior in grit and reduce the quality of the air you breathe. Your cabin air filter is located right behind your glove compartment, and it’s easy to change in a pinch—or in-between service appointments.
  4. Check your fluids. Fluids are especially important in the summer, when things heat up and evaporate quickly. Take a look under the hood before your trip to make sure you’re topped off.
  5. Replace your windshield wipers. Keeping your windshield clear is very important for any trip, so new wiper blades are a good thing to get before you get going.

Need help with additional maintenance services (including fixing your air conditioning)? We’re there for you before you take off this weekend and all summer long. We hope you have a wonderful Independence Day from all of us at Commercial Tire!
